If you’re looking to begin the home-buying process, it’s important to make sure your credit score is accurate. Take some time before you begin house hunting to review your credit report and check for errors.
An error on your credit history, such as an incorrectly listed missed payment, can cause serious damage to your score and make it harder to qualify for a mortgage. Thankfully, you have a right to dispute any inaccurate information on the report.
If you find an error on your credit report, print out the document and circle the mistake. Write a letter detailing the problem and send it to the credit agency providing the report. Include copies of any documentation supporting your claim, whether it’s canceled credit cards or payment receipts.
